The ISCAR 3201818 is an indexable insert drill from the DR-TWIST series, designed for holemaking in metal-cutting applications. It accepts two SOMT-style inserts (size code 16) and produces holes up to 2.25 inches in diameter at a maximum drill depth of 4.5 inches, delivering a 2xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The straight cylindrical shank measures 1.5 inches in diameter, making it compatible with standard toolholders of that bore size. Right-hand cutting direction and through-coolant capability via a 1/16-27 threaded coolant hole make this drill suitable for general-purpose production work. Machinists and tooling technicians install this body on CNC machining centers and boring mills where repeatable, indexable insert drilling is required.
This drill body is suited for general-purpose holemaking in ferrous and non-ferrous materials at the production level. Its 2xD ratio positions it for through-holes and moderate-depth blind holes in workpieces where a 2.25-inch bore diameter is needed. The coolant-through design supports higher feed rates and extended insert life in continuous-duty machine shop environments. The DR-TWIST series is a recognized platform for indexable drilling in job shop and production floor settings alike.
Designed for use with SOMT-style indexable inserts, size code 16, in the DR-TWIST drill body platform. The 1.5-inch straight cylindrical shank seats in standard toolholders or modular connections of the same bore size.
Installation and insert changes on indexable drill bodies are performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts or mounting the drill body in the toolholder. Verify shank seating depth and runout per machine tool manufacturer guidelines before cutting. Coolant connections should be confirmed leak-free at operating pressure before beginning a drilling cycle.
