The ISCAR 3201356 is an indexable insert drill from the DR-TWIST series, designed for holemaking applications in metal cutting and machining operations. The drill body accepts replaceable inserts rather than requiring full tool replacement, reducing tooling cost over time. It produces holes up to 11/16 inches (0.6875 inches) in diameter with a maximum drill depth of 1.38 inches at a 2xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The straight cylindrical shank measures 3/4 inches in diameter and 3.0 inches in length, allowing mounting in standard drill chucks, collets, and toolholders used in CNC machining centers and manual drill presses. Coolant-through capability is supported via a 1/4-18 NPT coolant hole thread, making this drill suitable for general-purpose production environments.
This drill is rated for general-purpose holemaking in a range of workpiece materials depending on insert grade selection. The 2xD ratio positions it for shorter, more rigid hole applications where accuracy and hole quality are priorities. It is compatible with multiple ISCAR insert styles, giving machinists flexibility to match insert geometry and coating to the specific material being drilled. Typical installation environments include CNC turning centers, machining centers, and drill press setups in job shops and production facilities. The body length is 2.2 inches and the neck and collar diameter measure 1.1020 inches.
Compatible insert styles include SOGX-AL, SOMX-DT, SOMX-GF, and SOMX-HD with insert size code 05. Designed for use with DR-style drill bodies and standard 3/4 inches straight cylindrical toolholders.
Installation and insert indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out, and de-energized state. Verify toolholder bore and retention system are clean and within tolerance before mounting. Coolant-through connections should be confirmed leak-free before running production. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting tool offsets and trial-drilling.
