The ISCAR 2861090 is an indexable grooving and cut-off toolholder in the Sumo-Grip series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built for left-hand orientation, it accepts TAG-series inserts via a clamp-style holding method, delivering secure insert retention during aggressive grooving and parting operations. The toolholder features a 1 x 1 inch square shank, a maximum groove width of 0.374 inches, and a maximum depth of cut of 0.98 inches. Through-coolant capability directs fluid directly to the cutting zone, extending insert life and improving chip evacuation. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this holder on lathes requiring reliable external grooving performance.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving and cut-off applications in both production turning and job-shop settings. The left-hand configuration positions it for specific spindle orientations or turret stations where right-hand holders are not appropriate. The Sumo-Grip clamping system is engineered for rigidity under the interrupted-cut and high-feed conditions common in grooving and parting work. Compatible inserts include TAG N-C/W/M and TAGB/TAGBA series, providing flexibility across different groove profiles and workpiece materials.
Compatible with TAG N-C/W/M and TAGB/TAGBA series inserts. Designed for use in external grooving and cut-off applications on CNC lathes and turning centers equipped with a 1 x 1 inch tool station.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before mounting or removing the toolholder. Verify that the insert and shim seat are clean and free of chips before clamping the insert. Connect the through-coolant supply line according to the machine tool manufacturer's specifications and confirm flow before resuming cuts.
