The ISCAR 2850108 is an external, right-hand indexable grooving toolholder from the Top Grip series, designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built on a 1 x 1 inch square shank with a total overall length of 5.5 inches, this toolholder accepts TGMF 4 and TGMF 5 series inserts secured by a mechanical clamp-style insert holding method. It delivers a maximum depth of cut of 0.59 inches and supports groove widths ranging from 0.157 to 0.197 inches. Machinists and tooling specialists working in production turning environments will find this holder suited to demanding external grooving applications.
This toolholder is configured for external grooving on the right-hand orientation, making it appropriate for conventional lathe setups where the tool approaches from the operator side. The Top Grip series clamping design provides rigid insert retention, which contributes to dimensional consistency across repeated cuts. It is a single-use toolholder style (non-multi-use), intended as a dedicated grooving tool rather than a modular turning platform. Compatible insert families include TGMF 4, TGMF 5, and TGMP 5 grades and geometries, giving the technician flexibility in selecting the right cutting edge for the workpiece material and finish requirement.
Compatible inserts include TGMF 4, TGMF 5, and TGMP 5 series indexable inserts. Insert compatibility code is TGMF 4 and TGMF 5 as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable shop safety procedures. Secure the shank in the tool turret or tool post according to the machine manufacturer's torque and clamping specifications for the shank size. Verify insert seating and clamp engagement before initiating any cut. Coolant-through is not supported on this toolholder, so external coolant delivery should be directed appropriately.
