The ISCAR 2801800 is an external right-hand indexable grooving toolholder designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the GHD toolholder style within ISCAR's Cut Grip series, it accepts GI.., GPV.., and TIP.. insert families and uses a screw-type insert holding method for secure, repeatable clamping. The toolholder features through-coolant capability, directing coolant directly to the cutting zone for improved chip evacuation and tool life. It handles a maximum depth of cut of 1 inch and a groove width range of 0.26 to 0.327 inches, making it suitable for a broad range of external grooving applications across universal workpiece materials.
This toolholder is intended for external grooving in production turning environments, including both roughing and finishing passes. Its 1-1/4 inch by 1-1/4 inch shank fits standard lathe tool blocks and turrets. The 7-inch overall length and 2.19-inch head length provide adequate reach and rigidity for typical external groove profiles. The multi-use designation means it supports a wide compatible insert range, reducing tooling inventory requirements in shops running varied grooving operations. It is rated for universal primary workpiece materials, covering ISO material groups H, K, M, N, P, and S.
Compatible insert families include GI.., GPV.., and TIP.. series. Specific compatible insert size codes include GIA-K, GIF, GIF (Full Radius), GIF-E, GIG, GIM-C, GIM-J, GIM-J-RA/LA, GIM-UT, GIM-UT-RA/LA, GIM-W, GIM-W-RA/LA, GIMF, GIMN, GIMT, GIMY, GIMY (Full Radius), GIMY-F, GIP, GIP (Full Radius), GDMF, GDMM-CC, GDMN, GDMU, GDMY, GDMY (Full Radius), GDMY-F, GIA-K (Long Pocket), GIF (Long Pocket), GIF-E (W=.315, .394 Radius), GIF-E (W=.315, .394), and GIPA/GIDA 8 (Full Radius).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the turret or tool block must be de-energized before mounting or changing inserts. Ensure the shank seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before torquing the toolholder into the block. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's clamping specifications and verify through-coolant port alignment with the machine's coolant supply when using the coolant-through feature.
