The ISCAR 2800494 is an external left hand indexable grooving toolholder designed for precision grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Cut Grip series, it features a GHS toolholder style with a maximum depth of cut of 1.26 inches and accepts groove widths from 2.2mm to 3.15mm. The 16mm x 16mm square shank and 120mm overall length make it well-suited for standard tool post and turret setups. It uses a mechanical clamp insert holding method and is compatible with a wide range of GIG, GIM, GIP, and TIP series inserts. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists are the primary users.
This toolholder is intended for external grooving applications where a left hand cutting direction is required. It handles a maximum workpiece diameter of 32mm and carries universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. This makes it appropriate for a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous turning work in job shop, production machining, and maintenance environments where external groove profiles, undercuts, or parting operations are performed.
Compatible insert families include GIG, GIM-J, GIM-J-RA/LA, GIMY, GIMY (Full Radius), GIMY-F, GIP, GIP (Full Radius W less than M), GIP (Full Radius), GIP-E, GIP-E (Full Radius), GIPA (Full Radius W=3-6), GIPA (W=3-6), GIPM-A46/GIP-1250, GIPY, GITM, GITM (Full Radius), TIP-MT, TIP-P-BSPT, and TIP-P insert styles. Insert seat size code is 2. Also referenced under MSC/Manufacturer Number GHSR/L 16-2.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and all stored energy released before changing or indexing inserts. Secure the shank to the specified clamping torque per the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and verify tool overhang does not exceed recommended limits to avoid vibration or deflection. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for chips or wear before seating a new insert.
