The ISCAR 2301538 is a left-hand indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder in the Do-Grip series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It accepts DG-series inserts secured by a clamp-style holding method, providing rigid, repeatable insert location for consistent groove geometry. The toolholder handles a groove width range of 1.9 to 2.5 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 12.7 mm. The 16 x 16 mm square shank and 120 mm overall length suit compact tool blocks and standard outside-diameter boring bars on short-overhang setups. CNC machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users of this toolholder.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving and cutoff work on metal turning applications including part-off operations, retaining-ring grooves, and undercut profiles. The left-hand orientation positions the cutting edge for specific turret stations or gang-tool configurations where a right-hand holder would interfere. The Do-Grip clamping system is engineered for secure insert seating without the need for a top clamp, keeping the cutting zone open for chip flow. The toolholder conforms to ISO 13399 standards for cutting tool data representation, supporting integration with CAM and tool-management software.
Compatible insert families include DGN/DGNM with J, JS, and JT seat styles and DGR/L with J, JS seat styles. Verified compatible inserts include DGL 2202C-6D, DGN 1900WP, DGN 2002C, DGN 2002Z, DGN 2202C, DGN 2202UA, DGN 2202UT, DGN 2400WP, DGN 2502C, and DGR 2202C-6D.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state before any tooling changes. Seat the toolholder securely in the turret pocket to the full shank depth and torque the clamping screws to the machine tool manufacturer specification using calibrated tooling. Confirm insert seating and tool offset values in the control before resuming production cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut or groove width limits specified for the selected insert.
