The IRWIN IWAX2007 is a 2-inch self-feed drill bit engineered for fast, aggressive boring through wood framing, joists, and rough lumber. The bit uses a center screw-feed point to pull itself through material, reducing the push force required from the operator. Built from coated steel with an oxide finish, it resists corrosion and reduces friction during the cut. The 0.4375-inch hex shank seats securely in standard bit extension holders and heavy-duty right-angle drill chucks commonly used by electricians, plumbers, and HVAC installers running pipe, conduit, or duct penetrations through structural wood members.
This bit is suited for residential and light commercial rough-in work where large-diameter holes need to be drilled quickly through dimensional lumber, engineered lumber, and wood panel assemblies. It is a common tool for plumbers routing drain lines, electricians pulling cable through fire-blocked framing, and HVAC techs creating duct or refrigerant line penetrations. The self-feed design makes it especially effective in tight spaces where a standard spade bit would demand more operator pressure.
Designed as a replacement or additional self-feed bit for use with standard 7/16-inch hex-drive bit holders, right-angle drills, and heavy-duty corded or cordless drill drivers commonly used in rough-in trade applications.
Self-feed bits should be used with a high-torque corded or cordless drill rated for large-diameter wood boring. Secure the workpiece before drilling and maintain firm control of the drill, as self-feed bits generate significant torque on breakthrough. Inspect the center screw point and outer cutting spurs before use and replace the bit if either shows damage, as a worn self-feed bit can grab and stall unexpectedly. Follow applicable building codes regarding notching and boring limits when drilling through load-bearing framing members.
