The IRWIN IR73830 is a high speed steel (HSS) jobbers-length drill bit designed for metal drilling applications in industrial and trade environments. It features a 15/32-inch drill diameter with a reduced 3/8-inch shank, allowing it to be used in standard 3/8-inch chuck drills where the full diameter would otherwise require a larger chuck. The 118-degree standard point angle suits general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials. With an overall length of 5.75 inches and a flute length of 4.3125 inches, this bit provides adequate depth capacity for most jobsite boring tasks. Electricians, plumbers, pipefitters, and general contractors commonly use bits of this type for structural and panel work.
The IR73830 is suited for use in corded or cordless drills with a 3/8-inch chuck capacity. The reduced shank design makes it particularly practical when working through framing members, metal studs, electrical boxes, or conduit support brackets where a full-sized chuck is not available. It is sold individually and fits standard drill-press and handheld drill setups used in residential and light commercial construction and maintenance work.
Designed as a general-purpose jobbers-length drill bit compatible with any 3/8-inch or larger keyed or keyless chuck drill, corded or cordless, used in trade and industrial applications.
A licensed electrician, plumber, or journeyman tradesperson typically selects this bit for framing and rough-in drilling tasks. Secure the bit fully in the chuck before operation and verify chuck tightness before each use. Wear appropriate eye protection and follow all applicable OSHA and site safety requirements when drilling into metal or structural materials. Do not exceed the recommended RPM range for the bit diameter and material being drilled.
