The IRWIN IR50532 is a tungsten carbide tipped spear-point drill bit designed for cutting through glass and tile. The spear-point geometry concentrates cutting force at the center of the bit, reducing the risk of chipping or cracking hard, brittle surfaces. At 0.5 inches in diameter, this bit is suited for creating clean through-holes in ceramic tile, porcelain, and glass materials. Tile setters, plumbers, and electricians commonly reach for this type of bit when routing penetrations through finished tile surfaces during rough-in or trim-out work.
This bit is used in residential and light commercial applications where holes must be drilled through hard tile or glass without fracturing the surrounding material. Typical install scenarios include creating openings for plumbing escutcheons, electrical boxes, or fixture mounting hardware through ceramic or porcelain tile. It is sold individually and is packaged on a carded retail card.
Designed for use on glass, ceramic tile, and porcelain tile surfaces in residential and light commercial installations.
Tile and glass drilling should be performed by a qualified installer familiar with brittle-material techniques. Use low drill speed and apply consistent, moderate pressure to avoid cracking. Applying water or a dedicated cutting fluid to the drill area helps dissipate heat and extend bit life. Always wear appropriate eye protection when drilling glass or tile.
