The IRWIN IR49912 is a solid center auger bit designed for boring clean, accurate holes in wood and wood-based materials. Built on the I-100 platform, this bit features a 3/4-inch diameter cutting head, a single-spur configuration, and a wide land design that supports straight tracking through the workpiece. The screw point pulls the bit into the material, reducing the force required to drive it. The 5/16-inch hex shank is compatible with standard auger bit extensions and power-drive tools. Overall length is 7-1/2 inches, with a 4-1/2-inch twist length to handle common framing and rough-in boring applications.
This auger bit is suited for residential and light commercial construction, rough framing, and mechanical trade rough-in work where holes must be bored through studs, joists, and plates. Electricians and plumbers routinely use solid center auger bits for running conduit, pipe, and cable through wood framing members. The hex shank design seats securely in a drill or right-angle drive without slipping under load.
Designed as a standard replacement or add-on auger bit for use with 3/8-inch or 1/2-inch corded drills and right-angle drives accepting a 5/16-inch hex shank, as used in electrical, plumbing, and general carpentry rough-in applications.
Installation of this bit is performed by electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and general contractors during rough-in framing stages. Ensure the drill is set to an appropriate speed for the material being bored; slower speeds with higher torque are standard for auger bits in dimensional lumber. Inspect the work area for embedded fasteners or utility lines before boring. Keep the shank seated fully in the chuck or drive extension before beginning a cut.
