The IRWIN IR44801 is a Type 1R LockHead adjustable boring bit with a straight shank, designed for drilling variable-diameter holes in wood and similar materials. The bit covers a bore diameter range of 5/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches in 1/8-inch increments, making it a versatile single-tool solution for jobs that would otherwise require multiple fixed-size bits. The straight shank measures 9/32 inches and the overall tool length is 5-1/2 inches. Construction is solid one-piece forging for rigidity under load. The kit includes cutting blades and a LockHead screw, and ships in a pouch.
The IR44801 is intended for use on a drill press in woodworking, rough framing, and trade installation applications where variable-size bored holes are required. The adjustable range of 5/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches suits common tasks such as running conduit, piping, or cable through framing members. The 1/8-inch increment adjustment allows the technician or installer to dial in the exact bore size needed without swapping bits. Replacement cutting blades are available separately under part numbers 44031 and 44032.
Designed for use on a drill press with a standard chuck accepting a 9/32-inch straight shank; replacement cutting blades are compatible under IRWIN part numbers 44031 and 44032.
This bit is intended for installation by a qualified tradesperson on a drill press. Before mounting or adjusting the bit, ensure the drill press is fully powered down and the chuck is stationary. Confirm the LockHead screw is fully tightened against the blade before beginning any drilling operation to prevent blade movement under load. Follow applicable safety standards for drill press operation and use appropriate eye protection.
