The IRWIN INDUSTRIAL TOOL CO 49915 is a solid center auger bit designed for boring clean, accurate holes in wood. The solid center construction provides extra rigidity during boring, reducing deflection in demanding applications. A coarse screw point pulls the bit into hard and soft woods quickly, while the single spur cutting edge scribes the hole circumference for a smoother finish. Full-length heat treatment strengthens the twist along its entire length, guarding against bending under heavy loads. The bit measures 15/16 inches in diameter, with a 4.5-inch twist length and 7.5-inch overall length.
This auger bit is suited for residential and light commercial carpentry, rough framing, and general wood boring tasks. It is typically installed or used by carpenters, electricians running wire through framing, plumbers boring through joists, or HVAC technicians routing ductwork penetrations. The wide lands keep the bit tracking straight through the bore, and the flutes are ground behind the lands to channel chips inward and away from the outside diameter, producing a faster and cleaner cut with less clogging.
Designed as an OEM-style solid center auger bit for use with standard brace tools in wood boring applications.
This bit is intended for use with a hand brace by carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians boring through wood framing or joists. Ensure the workpiece is secured before boring and wear appropriate eye protection to guard against chip ejection. Do not use this bit with power drills or impact drivers, as it is designed specifically for brace-drive applications. Inspect the bit for damage before each use and replace if the spur or cutting edges show signs of wear or deformation.
