The IRWIN INDUSTRIAL TOOL CO 49615 is a 5/16-inch brad point drill bit designed for precision hole drilling in wood-based materials. The brad point tip provides accurate center positioning before the cutting action begins, reducing wandering on smooth or finished surfaces. Spur cutting edges at the perimeter score the wood fiber ahead of the main flute, which minimizes tearout and splintering at the entry face. Wide flutes channel chips up and out of the hole continuously, preventing clogging during the cut. This package contains 3 bits. Each bit is precision ground and suited to any tradesperson or craftsman who demands consistent, repeatable hole diameter.
This bit is sized and ground for applications where exact hole diameter is critical: furniture assembly, dowel joint construction, cabinet door hinge prep, and finish carpentry. The 5/16-inch diameter is a common sizing for wood dowel joinery and shelf pin boring. With a twist length of 2-15/16 inches and an overall length of 4-19/32 inches, the bit fits standard drill chucks and right-angle attachments used on the job site and in the shop. Cabinetmakers, millwork installers, and trim carpenters are the primary users.
Designed as a standard replacement and production-use brad point bit for use in any 3/8-inch or larger keyed or keyless drill chuck accepting round-shank twist bits.
Installation of this bit is performed by woodworkers, cabinet installers, and finish carpenters using a handheld drill or drill press. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operation and confirm the chuck is tightened on all three jaws. Use a backing board behind the workpiece when breakthrough is expected to prevent exit-face tearout. Do not use brad point bits on metal, masonry, or composite materials containing abrasive fillers.
