The IRWIN INDUSTRIAL TOOL CO 49613 is a 3/16-inch brad point drill bit engineered for clean, accurate hole drilling in wood-based materials. The brad point tip provides precise centering before the cut begins, reducing wander on smooth or finished surfaces. Spur cutting edges along the tip shear wood fibers cleanly rather than tearing them, which minimizes splintering on entry and exit. Wide flutes channel chips out of the hole continuously, keeping the cut clear and reducing heat buildup. The bit is precision ground to maintain exact diameter tolerance, making it suitable wherever a consistent, repeatable hole size is required. Comes packaged in a pouch with a quantity of 5 bits per pack.
This bit is intended for use in furniture making, doweling, and cabinetry work where hole quality and placement accuracy matter. The 3/16-inch diameter is a common size for dowel joints, shelf pin holes, and pilot applications in hardwood and softwood alike. With an overall length of 2-9/16 inches and a twist length of 1-7/16 inches, the bit fits standard portable drills and drill presses used in woodworking shops and on residential finish-carpentry job sites. Woodworkers, cabinetmakers, and finish carpenters are the primary users of this tool.
Designed for use in standard portable drills and drill presses accepting 3/16-inch round-shank bits. Intended for drilling in hardwood, softwood, plywood, and similar wood-composite materials.
Install the bit securely in the drill chuck and verify it is fully seated and tightened before operation. Use a drill press or a guide when hole perpendicularity is critical to the joint or fit. Apply steady, moderate feed pressure and allow the flutes to clear chips freely — forcing the bit can cause splintering or bit breakage in hardwoods. Use a backing board beneath the workpiece to minimize tearout on the exit side of the hole.
