The IRWIN HANSON 6858 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external threads on bolts, studs, and threaded rod. It cuts a 3/4-10 thread profile in the right-hand direction to the UNC standard, making it a direct-use tool for restoring inch-series fasteners common in mechanical, structural, and HVAC applications. The die is manufactured from carbon steel, providing the hardness needed to chase and clean threads on standard steel and softer metals. This is a non-adjustable die, so setup is straightforward - no adjustment collar or split-die tension is required. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians keep this die on hand for field and shop thread repair work.
This die is suited for repair work on residential and commercial mechanical systems where 3/4-10 UNC fasteners are used - including equipment mounting hardware, structural bolts, and threaded rod connections. It is equally applicable in general maintenance environments such as manufacturing facilities, equipment repair shops, and job-site field service. The hex body profile allows use with a standard die stock or a wrench, giving technicians flexibility in tight spaces where a full die stock handle may not fit.
Designed for use on any external 3/4-10 UNC right-hand threaded fastener including bolts, studs, and threaded rod. Compatible with standard hex die stocks sized for this die body.
Thread rethreading dies are typically used by machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians. Before chasing threads on an installed fastener, ensure the fastener is backed out or the assembly is de-energized and depressurized as appropriate for the application. Apply cutting oil or thread lubricant to the die and fastener before running the die on to reduce heat buildup and improve thread quality. Inspect the repaired thread with a mating nut after chasing to confirm acceptable fit before reassembly.
