The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6118304 is a DNMG-style turning insert engineered for precision lathe and turning center operations. Built from solid carbide with a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN coating, this insert delivers the thermal resistance and edge stability needed when cutting stainless steel, super-alloys, and titanium. The 55-degree diamond shape provides a favorable approach angle for profiling and finishing passes. It measures 0.533 inches in length with a 0.438-inch inscribed circle and a 0.016-inch corner radius, making it well-suited for moderate depth finishing work where dimensional control is critical. Four usable cutting edges extend tool life and reduce cost per edge for the machinist.
This insert targets CNC turning applications in precision machining environments, including aerospace component work, medical part production, and industrial equipment manufacturing where stainless steel and high-temperature alloys are common workpiece materials. The EA chip breaker geometry is designed for finishing and semi-finishing operations with controlled chip evacuation. The negative rake and neutral hand allow use in standard DNMG insert pockets. Maximum recommended depth of cut is 0.059 inches, placing this insert squarely in finishing and light semi-finishing passes rather than heavy roughing.
Designed for use in DNMG insert pockets with clamp-style insert holding. ANSI code DNMG3.53.51EATT5080; ISO code DNMG130504EA TT5080. Compatible with toolholders and boring bars configured for DNMG-style inserts with a clearance code of N and tolerance code M.
Turning insert installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips or debris before clamping to maintain proper seating and prevent premature edge failure. Verify clamp torque using the toolholder manufacturer's specification for DNMG pocket clamps.
