Product Description

The INGERSOLL CUTTING TOOLS 6115366 is a CNMG-style solid carbide turning insert in grade TT5080, designed for demanding material removal on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert features a PVD-applied AlTiN and TiN dual coating that delivers high wear resistance with maintained toughness. The 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry suited to aggressive roughing and medium machining passes. With a 0.508 inch insert length, 0.500 inch inscribed circle, and a 0.016 inch corner radius, this insert is sized to ANSI code 431 and ISO code CNMG120404. Mounting is by clamp, with negative rake and negative side clearance (clearance code N, tolerance code M). Four cutting edges are available per insert.

This insert is engineered for primary use on stainless steel (ISO material group M), superalloys, and titanium (ISO material group S). The EM chip breaker geometry supports roughing through medium machining operations where high wear resistance and edge toughness are required. Typical applications include external turning on components made from austenitic stainless, Inconel, Hastelloy, and similar difficult-to-machine alloys. A maximum depth of cut of 0.200 inch applies.

Key Features

  • PVD-coated AlTiN and TiN dual coating for high wear resistance in stainless steel and superalloy cutting
  • 80-degree diamond insert shape (ANSI CNMG431 / ISO CNMG120404) with 4 usable cutting edges
  • EM chip breaker geometry rated for roughing and medium machining
  • 0.016 inch corner radius balances surface finish with edge strength
  • Negative rake, negative side clearance geometry - compatible with rigid clamp-style toolholders
  • Maximum depth of cut: 0.200 inch

Compatibility

Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for CNMG431-series clamp-style turning toolholders accepting an 80-degree diamond insert with a 0.500 inch inscribed circle and negative clearance geometry. ANSI size code 431, ISO size code 120404, ISO full code CNMG120404EM TT5080.

Installation Notes

Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician during tool setup on a CNC or manual lathe. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or rotating the insert. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket before tightening the clamp to avoid micro-movement under cut forces. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before each insert index to ensure proper seating and edge repeatability.
