The IMPORT BDNA-20724 is a straight flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-holes and semi-blind applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a gold oxide coating, this tap produces 3/8-16 UNC right-hand threads with a taper chamfer entry. The taper chamfer gradually introduces the cutting edges, reducing starting torque and helping align the tap true to the hole axis. With 4 flutes and an H3 thread limit, this tap is suited for general-purpose tapping in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials where a standard tolerance fit is required.
This tap is used in manufacturing, maintenance, and repair environments where 3/8-16 UNC threads are common — including structural fastener applications, machine components, and field repair work. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians reach for this style of tap when tapping by hand or on manual machine tools. The straight flute geometry works best in through-hole or shallow-depth applications where chip flow is not a concern.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or supplemental tap for any application requiring 3/8-16 UNC right-hand internal threads in ferrous and similar materials.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, T-handle, or manual machine setup. Always ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the tap is started perpendicular to the drilled hole surface. Use appropriate tapping fluid for the material being threaded to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Do not force the tap against hard resistance — back off periodically to break and clear chips.
