The IMPORT 27544 is a wire-gauge jobber-length drill bit sized at No. 44, equivalent to 0.0860 inches in decimal diameter. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating for improved surface hardness and reduced friction, this bit is designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, plastic, and similar materials. The standard 118-degree point angle suits a wide range of common drilling applications. At 2.125 inches overall length with a 1.125-inch flute length, it fits standard drill chucks and is sized for precision hole work in light-gauge materials. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals reach for this bit when accurate, repeatable small-diameter holes are required.
The 27544 is suited for bench drill press, hand drill, and CNC drilling operations where small wire-gauge holes are needed. Typical applications include tapping pre-drill operations, electrical panel work, sheet metal fabrication, and general maintenance drilling. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard three-jaw chucks. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drilling setups. The regular spiral flute promotes chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole applications across a range of base materials.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber drill bit suitable for use with standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks in the 0.0500 to 0.1000-inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified tradespeople familiar with drilling equipment and safe operating practices. Ensure the drill press or hand drill is powered off and the chuck is fully secured before beginning work. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for metalworking applications to extend bit life, though this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Secure workpieces firmly before drilling to prevent movement and bit breakage at this small diameter.
