The IMPORT -20922-5 is a mechanics-length, high-speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of metallic workpieces. It features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and requires no center punch on flat surfaces. The Weldon flat shank with three flats provides a secure, non-slip grip in compatible chucks and holders. At 4-3/8 inches overall length with a 2-13/16 inch flute length, this bit is sized for close-quarters and standard drill press applications. The oxide finish offers basic surface protection during storage and use. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations.
This drill bit is suited for metalworking applications in fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and field service environments. Its 0.4062 inch (13/32 inch) diameter is a common size for clearance holes, tapping prep, and stepped drilling operations. Primary workpiece materials include carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel stock. The mechanics length makes it appropriate for use in confined spaces where a jobber-length bit would be impractical. It is typically used by machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and general maintenance trades.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement mechanics drill bit compatible with standard Weldon flat shank tool holders and drill chucks that accept a 13/32 inch diameter shank. Suitable for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel workpieces.
Secure the Weldon flat shank fully in the tool holder before tightening set screws against the flats to prevent slipping under load. Ensure the drill press or handheld drill is powered off and locked out before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or high-alloy materials to extend tool life and prevent work hardening. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the split point geometry is compromised.
