The IMPORT -20921-5 is a mechanics-length twist drill bit designed for production and maintenance drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and general trade applications. It measures 25/64 inches (0.3906 inches decimal) in diameter with a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The bit is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish for added surface hardness and mild corrosion resistance. The overall length is 4-5/16 inches with a 2-3/4 inch flute length. Machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance techs who drill in tight or depth-limited setups will find the shorter mechanics length practical for confined work.
This bit is suited for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel stock. The Weldon flat shank with three flats provides positive drive and prevents slipping in drill chucks and holders designed for that shank style. The right-hand spiral flute with regular spiral geometry and web-thinned, parallel web configuration is optimized for general-purpose metal removal in both manual and machine drill press applications across light industrial and field service work.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and hand drills fitted with Weldon flat-shank holders or standard chucks accepting a 25/64 inch shank. Compatible workpiece materials include carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel.
This bit is installed by a machinist, maintenance technician, or pipefitter in any drill press or power drill with an appropriate Weldon-compatible holder or three-jaw chuck. Secure the Weldon shank firmly in the holder before operation to prevent axial pull-out under load. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless or high-alloy materials to manage heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if the point geometry is compromised.
