The IMPORT 20915 is a mechanics-length, high-speed steel drill bit designed for fast, accurate hole starting in metal fabrication and maintenance applications. The 135-degree split point geometry self-centers on contact, eliminating the need for a center punch and reducing walking on hard surfaces. At 19/64 inches (0.5969 inches decimal) in diameter with a 3-7/8 inch overall length and a 2-3/8 inch flute length, this bit is sized for compact drilling in tight clearance situations. The oxide finish provides light corrosion resistance during storage and service. The three-flat Weldon shank locks securely in compatible chucks to prevent slipping under torque. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations.
This drill bit is suited for general-purpose metalworking tasks including drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and standard steel stock. The mechanics-length body is commonly selected by machinists, millwrights, HVAC fabricators, and maintenance technicians who need a shorter, stiffer bit for work in confined spaces or on drill press setups where a jobber-length bit would flex or deflect. The web-thinned, parallel web configuration reduces thrust requirements, making this bit practical for hand-held drill use as well as machine applications.
Designed as a general-purpose mechanics-length drill bit compatible with chucks and tool holders that accept a three-flat Weldon shank. Suitable for use in hand-held drills, drill presses, and machine spindles configured for this shank type. Rated for use in carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and standard steel workpieces.
Secure the Weldon shank fully in a compatible chuck or holder and tighten set screws against the flats before operation. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling. Apply cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or high alloy materials to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and discard or resharpen the bit if the point shows chipping or excessive wear.
