The IMPORT 20903 is a mechanics-length high-speed steel drill bit designed for fast, accurate hole starting in metal and alloy workpieces. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on entry and requires less feed pressure than a standard 118-degree point, making it well-suited for production drilling and repetitive trade work. The oxide finish provides a mild level of surface hardness and lubricity. At 2.375 inches overall length with a 1.3125-inch flute length, this is a short, rigid bit built for close-quarters drilling where a jobber-length bit would flex or chatter. Right-hand cut, spiral flute, web-thinned construction rounds out the design.
This bit is intended for drilling into carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloys, stainless steel, and general steel stock. The mechanics length makes it a common choice for automotive, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades where access is restricted and drill depth is shallow. It is appropriate for use in standard hand drills, drill presses, and right-angle drill attachments. General-purpose tool performance rating means it is suitable for everyday production drilling rather than specialized high-speed machining applications.
Designed as a general-purpose mechanics-length drill bit for use in standard 3-jaw drill chucks accepting straight cylindrical shanks. Suitable for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloys, stainless steel, and general steel workpieces.
Install into a properly tightened chuck before applying power. Ensure the workpiece is secured before drilling to prevent rotation and bit breakage. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or high alloy materials to extend bit life, even though this bit does not have coolant-through capability. Inspect the split point for chipping before each use — a damaged point will walk and produce oversized holes.
