The IMPORT -20870-P is a Letter P mechanics drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in trade and industrial applications. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and cuts faster than a standard 118-degree tip. The Weldon flat shank with three flats provides a positive drive connection and resists slipping in the chuck. At 0.3230 inches in diameter and 4.0625 inches overall length, this bit handles a wide range of ferrous metal drilling tasks. Licensed tradespeople and machinists working in fabrication, mechanical, or maintenance settings will find it a practical general-purpose option.
This bit is suited for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and other ferrous materials in mechanical and maintenance applications. The mechanics length profile balances rigidity and reach for use in standard drill presses, milling machines, and hand drills. The spiral flute and web-thinned, parallel web configuration promote chip evacuation and reduce cutting resistance in tougher alloys. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 3 units.
Designed as a general-purpose mechanics-length drill bit compatible with standard Weldon flat chuck holders and drill presses, milling machines, and hand drills that accept a Weldon shank. Suitable for carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and similar ferrous workpiece materials.
Secure the Weldon flat shank firmly in a compatible chuck or tool holder, ensuring at least one flat engages the set screw to prevent rotation. Always secure workpieces before drilling and use appropriate cutting fluid when working with stainless steel or high alloy materials to extend tool life. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection when operating any rotating cutting tool. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or dullness is observed.
