The IMPORT 20837 is a mechanics-length high-speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and ferrous materials. The 0.104-inch diameter bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and lowers the thrust force needed to start a hole, making it well suited for hand-held and drill-press work. The oxide coating provides a degree of lubricity and surface hardness. At 2.5 inches overall length, this is a short, rigid bit that resists deflection in tight quarters. The right-hand spiral flute geometry evacuates chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole drilling.
This bit is intended for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloys, and stainless steel. The mechanics length format is common in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical rough-in work where clearance is limited and a standard-length jobber bit would bind or deflect. It is typically used in portable drill drivers, drill presses, and step-drill pilot applications where a small-diameter entry hole is required before upsizing.
Designed as a general-purpose mechanics-length drill bit suitable for use in any standard straight-shank chuck rated for small-diameter bits in hand drills and drill presses.
This bit is installed and serviced by any trade professional who performs metal drilling as part of rough-in or service work. Secure the bit fully in the chuck and verify it runs true before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or high-alloy materials to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Wear eye protection and secure the workpiece to prevent rotation.
