The IMPORT 20822 is a mechanics-length high speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and ferrous materials. It measures 0.157 inches in diameter with a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on contact and lowers the thrust needed to start a hole. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. Right-hand spiral flutes clear chips efficiently during operation. With an overall length of 3.125 inches and a flute length of 1.9375 inches, this bit fits the compact profile expected in tight-clearance mechanic applications. It is suited for use by machinists, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and electricians who drill metal regularly in the field or shop.
This bit is rated for use in carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel workpieces. The mechanics-length format keeps the bit short and rigid, reducing deflection when drilling through metal panels, brackets, enclosures, and structural members. The oxide finish provides basic lubricity and mild corrosion resistance during storage and use. It is a right-hand cut bit with regular spiral flutes and a parallel web configuration. Web thinning reduces cutting resistance at the tip, which is especially useful when working in harder steel grades.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock mechanics drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for use in carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel workpieces.
Install in a standard keyed or keyless drill chuck and tighten securely before use. Power down or unplug the drill before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or high alloy steel to extend bit life and reduce heat buildup. Eye protection and appropriate PPE are required when drilling metal.
