The IMPORT 20816 is a mechanics-length high-speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and ferrous workpiece materials. It measures 0.177 inches in diameter with a 3-3/8 inch overall length and a 2-1/16 inch flute length. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on contact, allowing the bit to self-center without a pilot hole. The oxide coating provides a base level of lubricity and corrosion resistance. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. This bit is suited for use in standard drill presses and hand-held electric drills in shop and field environments.
This drill bit is rated for use in carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. The mechanics length format — shorter than a jobber bit — provides added rigidity and better control in tight clearance applications such as equipment repair, fabrication shops, and on-site mechanical service work. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw chucks without modification. It is a practical everyday cutting tool for HVAC techs, pipefitters, millwrights, and general mechanics who need reliable hole quality in ferrous materials.
Designed for general-purpose drilling in carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. Fits any drill press or hand-held drill with a three-jaw chuck sized to accept a 0.177 inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent rotation and bit breakage. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or high-alloy materials to extend bit life and maintain hole quality. Apply consistent, steady feed pressure — excessive force can overheat the cutting edge and shorten tool life. Inspect the split point for chipping or wear before each use; a damaged point will produce oversized or off-center holes.
