The IMPORT 20815 is a mechanics-length high-speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose hole drilling in metal and ferrous materials. It features a 135-degree split point tip that reduces walking on contact and allows the bit to begin cutting without a center punch in most setups. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill chucks. At 0.18 inches in diameter with a 3-3/8 inch overall length and a 2-1/16 inch flute length, this bit is suited for close-quarter and general bench drilling work performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and HVAC or plumbing tradespeople drilling sheet metal or structural steel.
This drill bit is intended for use in portable electric drills and drill presses across a range of ferrous workpiece materials. Listed compatible workpiece materials include carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel. The mechanics length format offers a shorter, stiffer profile compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in tighter drilling applications. It is a right-hand cut bit with a regular spiral flute and oxide finish, appropriate for dry or light-lubricated drilling operations.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks on portable drills and bench drill presses. Compatible workpiece materials include carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel.
This bit is installed by a machinist or general trade technician into any standard 3-jaw chuck that accommodates a straight-cylindrical shank. Secure the shank fully and verify chuck engagement before use. Apply cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or high-alloy materials to extend tool life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edge before each use and replace the bit if the point is chipped or the flutes are damaged.
