The IMPORT 20804 is a mechanics-length high speed steel drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metalworking applications. It measures 0.209 inches in diameter with a 135-degree split point geometry that reduces walking on contact and requires less feed force than a conventional 118-degree point. The oxide finish provides light corrosion resistance during storage and use. At 3.75 inches overall length, this is a shorter-body mechanics bit suited for work in confined spaces where a jobber-length bit would be impractical. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole drilling.
This drill bit is intended for use on carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloys, and stainless steel. The mechanics length format makes it a standard choice for automotive, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades where drilling access is limited by framing, sheet metal enclosures, or structural members. It is suitable for use in standard drill presses, portable electric drills, and magnetic-base drills. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks without adapters.
Designed as a general-purpose mechanics-length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw chucks accepting straight cylindrical shanks. Suitable for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloys, and stainless steel workpieces.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck before drilling and confirm the chuck key is removed before powering the drill. Use cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or high alloy materials to extend bit life and reduce work-hardening. Reduce feed pressure as the bit breaks through the far side of the workpiece to prevent grabbing. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace bits that show chipping, bluing from heat, or visible wear on the flute lands.
