The HERTEL SHTPG322630BN is a single-point turning insert manufactured from Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN), an uncoated superhard cutting material suited for high-speed machining of hardened ferrous metals, cast iron, and powder metal components. It features an SH-TPG insert style with a 60-degree triangular shape, a 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch) inscribed circle, and a 1/32 inch (0.0313 inch) corner radius. The insert carries a relief angle of 11 degrees and a 1/8 inch thickness, and is held by a clamp-style toolholder. Machinists and CNC operators working in production turning and finishing operations install this insert on compatible toolholders indexed to the TPG pocket geometry.
This insert is intended for precision turning and finishing cuts on hardened steels, chilled cast iron, sintered carbides, and similar difficult-to-machine materials. Its uncoated PCBN construction performs best at elevated cutting speeds where heat generation supports material shear rather than abrasive wear. Typical applications include OD turning, facing, and light interrupted cuts on production lathes and CNC turning centers. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units, which is standard practice for indexed turning inserts in production environments.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for SH-TPG style turning insert pockets using the 322 insert size code. Compatible with clamp-style toolholders specifying TPG-322 pocket geometry with clearance code P and tolerance code G.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw to secure the insert in the toolholder pocket — refer to the toolholder manufacturer specifications for clamp torque values. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before seating a new insert, as contamination can affect insert orientation and cutting performance.
