The HERTEL SDD43275015 is a 3-piece step drill bit set manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating. Step drill bits allow a single tool to drill and ream holes across a range of diameters in one operation, reducing the need to swap bits during layout and punch work. This set covers sizes from 1/8 inch up to 3/4 inch and features a split-point geometry at 118 degrees, which reduces walking on entry and minimizes burring on sheet metal, plastic, and light-gauge steel. TiN coating increases surface hardness and extends cutting life compared to uncoated HSS. The set is dimensioned to DIN specification standards and is suited for electricians, HVAC techs, plumbers, and sheet metal workers who drill conduit knockouts, panel holes, and pipe penetrations.
This set is commonly used in residential and light commercial applications where clean, stepped holes are required in sheet metal enclosures, electrical panels, junction boxes, ductwork flanges, and plastic housings. The range from 1/8 inch to 3/4 inch covers the most common hole sizes for conduit fittings, grommets, and small pipe pass-throughs. The split-point tip is particularly useful when working on thin-gauge material where a standard point would deflect or tear.
Designed as a standard inch-measurement step drill bit set suitable for use with any corded or cordless drill or drill press accepting standard round or hex-shank step bits.
Step drill bits are typically installed and used by electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers for drilling holes in sheet metal, enclosures, and panels. Always de-energize and lock out electrical panels or equipment before drilling near live components, following NFPA 70E lockout/tagout procedures. Use light to moderate feed pressure to prevent bit chatter and overheating, and allow the TiN coating to do the work rather than forcing the cut. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before beginning.
