The HERTEL SD6560635 is a 9-step high-speed steel step drill bit designed for drilling multiple hole sizes with a single tool. Built from M2 high-speed steel with a black oxide coating, it cuts clean, stepped holes in sheet metal, thin plate, plastic, and other light-gauge materials common in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing rough-in work. The hex shank with a single flat is compatible with quick-change chuck systems, reducing bit swap time on the job. Overall length is 2-3/16 inches, making it compact enough for tight access locations. The concave flute geometry helps clear chips efficiently during drilling.
This step drill bit covers nine hole sizes ranging from 1/4 inch up to 3/4 inch in 1/16-inch increments, handling the most common knockout and pilot-hole sizes used in electrical panel work, conduit entry, ductwork, and junction box installation. It is suited for general-purpose, multipurpose applications in both residential and light commercial settings. Electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers will find the incremental step sizing useful when working with thin metal enclosures, sheet metal duct collars, and plastic electrical boxes where a standard twist bit would walk or deform the opening.
Part of the HSTH-OX series. Compatible with quick-change drill chucks and standard 3/8-inch hex-drive chuck adapters. Suited for use on sheet metal, thin-gauge steel, aluminum, and plastics typical in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing trade applications.
Step drill bits in this class are typically used by electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers for creating clean, accurately sized holes in thin materials. Always secure the workpiece before drilling and use appropriate eye protection. Apply light, steady feed pressure to avoid overshooting the intended step. For electrical enclosure work, follow applicable NEC requirements for conduit and cable entry sizing.
