The HERTEL SD6560247 is a high-speed steel step drill bit designed to drill multiple hole sizes with a single tool. Built from M2 HSS with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit handles 12 incremental hole sizes ranging from 3/16 inch up to 7/8 inch in 1/16-inch step increments. The concave flute geometry promotes chip evacuation and clean entry in sheet metal, plastics, and thin-gauge materials. At 2-5/8 inches overall length and a 3/8-inch hex shank, it mounts quickly in standard hex-chuck drivers and drill presses used across HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general fabrication work.
This step drill bit is suited for trade professionals who need to punch clean, precise holes in sheet metal panels, electrical enclosures, junction boxes, ductwork, and similar thin-material applications. The quick-change hex shank allows fast swapping between bits on the job without additional adapters. The 1/8-inch step length and 1/16-inch increments give the installer fine control over final hole diameter. It is a general-purpose, multipurpose tool appropriate for residential and light commercial service work across electrical, HVAC, and plumbing trades.
Designed as a general-purpose step drill for use in standard hex-chuck drills and drill drivers that accept a 3/8-inch hex shank. Compatible with thin sheet metal, plastic, and similar materials typical in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing installations.
This bit is installed and used by electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers drilling knockout holes in thin sheet metal, enclosures, and panels. Always de-energize and lock out electrical panels or equipment before drilling near live components, following NFPA 70E and applicable NEC requirements. Use a center punch to prevent the bit from walking on smooth metal surfaces. Do not apply excessive downward pressure; allow the step geometry to feed at its own rate to avoid bit damage or workpiece deformation.
