The HERTEL MR34-0378.281 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking applications. Ground to a 0.0380-inch diameter corresponding to wire gauge size 62, this reamer delivers a tight tolerance of 0.0000 to +0.0003 mm, making it suitable for bore sizing where dimensional accuracy is critical. The spiral flute geometry with a left-hand spiral and right-hand cut combination promotes smooth chip evacuation and reduces chatter in short, controlled reaming passes. At 1.9685 inches overall length with a 7 mm flute length, this is a compact tool built for light-stock finishing work. It weighs approximately 0.1 pounds. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users.
This chucking reamer is used in CNC machining centers, manual mills, and drill presses where tight bore tolerances are required. It is well suited for small-diameter finish reaming in steel, cast iron, and other ferrous or non-ferrous materials where a solid carbide substrate provides the rigidity and wear resistance needed to hold size over repeated cycles. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks and collet-style toolholders commonly found in production and jobshop environments. Its bright polished finish reduces friction and built-up edge in compatible materials.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in standard straight-shank collet chucks and drill chucks capable of holding small-diameter tooling in the wire gauge size range.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with reaming operations and toolholder selection. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are clean and concentric before seating the straight shank to maintain runout within the reamer tolerance. Always bring the spindle to a full stop before tool changes, and confirm correct RPM and feed rate for the workpiece material and reamer diameter before cutting. Do not use this reamer to remove excessive stock — pre-drill or bore to within standard reaming allowance before finishing.
