The HERTEL 84512698 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tool is engineered for extended tool life under heavy cutting loads. It features 5 flutes with a 1-inch length of cut and a 3.5-inch overall length. The 1-inch mill diameter matches the 1-inch shank diameter for rigid, low-runout setup. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional milling machine spindles. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in job shops or production environments will reach for this end mill when roughing steel and alloy workpieces.
This roughing end mill is suited for roughing passes on ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials where chip clearance and heat resistance are priorities. The center-cutting geometry allows plunge entry, giving the operator flexibility in workholding and path planning. The TiN coating reduces friction and improves wear resistance compared to uncoated cobalt tooling. It is a single-end tool, so it is replaced rather than flipped when the cutting end is worn. Typical applications include roughing pockets, slots, and profiles on vertical and horizontal machining centers as well as manual knee mills.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use roughing end mill for standard 1-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style tool holders on vertical and horizontal machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully in the tool holder to the recommended engagement depth and torque set screws to the tool holder manufacturer specification. Inspect the TiN coating and cutting edges for chips or wear before each use, and do not use a damaged end mill.
