The HERTEL 16ERZ8NPTHG330T is a laydown threading insert engineered for external NPT thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide with a TiAlN coating applied via PVD process, this insert delivers hardness and heat resistance suited to high-speed threading operations. It cuts right-hand external NPT threads at 8 threads per inch (TPI) and carries the HG330TR manufacturer grade designation. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 0.1614-inch (4.10 mm) thickness conform to the 16ER laydown insert style standard. Machinists and CNC operators working in production environments choose this insert for consistent thread form and tool life on pipe-thread profiles.
This insert is intended for external NPT pipe thread applications on materials where a TiAlN-coated solid carbide grade is appropriate, including steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials. It fits 16ER-style toolholders and is well suited to production threading of fittings, nipples, couplings, and other threaded pipe components requiring NPT form. Insert seating and clamping should be performed according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications; ensure the insert pocket is clean and free of chips before seating. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use appropriate insert removal tools rather than bare hands to avoid injury from sharp cutting edges. Verify thread pitch and form with a calibrated NPT thread gauge after the first pass on a new insert.
