The HERTEL 16ERZ11WHG225TR is a laydown threading insert designed for external Whitworth thread cutting on CNC lathes and manual threading applications. Built from solid carbide with a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) PVD coating, this insert delivers wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous threading passes. It cuts right-hand external threads at 11 threads per inch (TPI) to the Whitworth standard. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3750 inch decimal) and insert thickness is 4.10 mm (0.1614 inches). It is used by machinists and CNC operators producing Whitworth-threaded fasteners, fittings, and mechanical components.
This insert is suited for threading operations on steel, alloy steel, and similar ferrous materials where a PVD TiAlN coating provides adequate chip and heat management. The 16ER insert style seats in standard 16ER laydown toolholders used on production lathes, manual lathes, and CNC turning centers. Typical applications include producing BSW (British Standard Whitworth) and related thread forms on shafts, couplings, and hydraulic fittings where the Whitworth thread standard is specified. The right-hand orientation covers the vast majority of external threading jobs in Whitworth profiles.
Designed for use in standard 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders. Cuts external right-hand Whitworth threads at 11 TPI. Verify toolholder seat geometry and insert pocket dimensions before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper clamping torque — refer to the toolholder documentation for seating procedure. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or wear before installing a new insert, and confirm thread form and TPI match the workpiece specification before commencing the threading pass.
