The HERTEL 16ER20UNHG225TR is a laydown-style threading insert designed for external UN thread form cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide with a PVD-applied TiAlN coating, this insert delivers high wear resistance and thermal stability during threading operations. It is configured for right-hand cutting with a 20 threads-per-inch (TPI) pitch and a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (0.3750 inches). The 0.146-inch thickness and 16ER insert style make it a direct fit for compatible laydown threading toolholders. Machinists and CNC operators working on precision threaded components rely on this grade for consistent thread quality across mild steels, alloy steels, and similar materials.
This insert is suited for external threading applications in production and job-shop machining environments. It is used on CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped with laydown threading toolholders accepting the 16ER insert style. Typical applications include cutting UN-standard external threads at 20 TPI on shafts, fasteners, hydraulic fittings, and similar turned components. The TiAlN coating makes it well suited for dry or minimal-lubrication cutting conditions where heat resistance is a priority. Sold individually per package, with a minimum order quantity of 10 pieces.
Designed for use in laydown threading toolholders that accept the 16ER insert style. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping specifications before installation to confirm fitment.
This insert is installed and replaced by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Always index or replace inserts with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torx or hex key at the manufacturer-specified seating torque for the toolholder to prevent insert movement or breakage. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature edge failure.
