The HERTEL 16704421 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications in production and maintenance environments. Built from solid carbide with a bright/uncoated finish, it cuts to a 135-degree split-point angle that reduces walking on entry and requires less thrust than a conventional 118-degree point. The bit measures 0.3020 inches in diameter (Letter N) with an overall length of 2-13/16 inches and a flute length of 1-5/8 inches. The slow-spiral, two-flute geometry supports chip evacuation in tough, work-hardening materials. This bit is installed by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians working in job shop and production settings.
This drill bit is engineered for use in hard and abrasive workpiece materials including cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel. The screw machine length format provides added rigidity compared to a jobber-length bit, making it well suited for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes where short, controlled cuts are required. The straight cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks and collet holders without adapters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement screw machine length drill bit compatible with standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.3000 to 0.3500 inch diameter range.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with cutting tool setup. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the bit from a chuck or collet. Ensure the shank is fully engaged and the chuck or collet is torqued per the machine manufacturer's specification before initiating a cut. Coolant-through is not supported; apply appropriate cutting fluid externally when machining stainless steel, titanium alloy, or nickel alloy to control heat buildup at the cutting edge.
