The HERTEL 16704413 is a screw machine length drill bit sized to Letter M (0.2950 inches) with a solid carbide construction and a 135-degree split-point tip. Screw machine length bits are shorter than jobber-length tools, which improves rigidity and reduces deflection in close-tolerance drilling operations. The 135-degree point self-centers on contact, minimizing the need for a center punch on flat or curved surfaces. With a slow-spiral flute geometry and a bright, uncoated finish, this bit is designed for cutting harder workpiece materials where heat management and edge retention are critical priorities. Licensed machinists and tool-room operators are the typical end users.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance machining in industrial and shop environments. Its primary workpiece materials include cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks on CNC machining centers, manual drill presses, and lathes. The short overall length of 2.75 inches makes it well matched for turret-style tooling setups and applications where spindle clearance is limited. Right-hand cut geometry is compatible with standard spindle rotation on conventional machine tools.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.2500 to 0.3000 inch decimal inch size range. Rated for cutting cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel.
Installation is performed by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC or manual machine tools. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before starting a cut. Power down and de-energize the machine before changing tooling. Do not use this bit in hand-held portable drills, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to breakage under the lateral loading common in hand-held operation.
