The HERTEL 16704330 is a screw machine length drill bit ground from solid carbide stock. Shorter than a jobber-length bit, the screw machine format reduces overhang and increases rigidity, making it well suited for tight-clearance drilling and high-production work. The bit runs a No. 5 wire gauge size, equal to 0.2055 inches in diameter, with a 135-degree split-point geometry that starts on contact without a center punch. Two slow-spiral flutes clear chips efficiently, and the straight cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks and collets. Overall length is 2.375 inches with a flute length of 1.25 inches. The bright uncoated finish means no coating buildup that could affect hole tolerance in tight-spec applications.

Install and removal should be performed with the machine powered down and spindle fully stopped. Secure the shank firmly in the chuck or collet to the manufacturer-specified clamping depth before operation. Coolant-through is not supported by this bit; use external coolant or cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material when drilling hard alloys. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping before each use, as carbide is brittle and edge damage can cause sudden bit failure or oversize holes.
