The HERTEL 16704272 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. Built to wire size 10 (0.1935 inches decimal), this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and requires no center punch on most surfaces. The slow spiral geometry controls chip evacuation in deep-hole and short-hole drilling scenarios. At 2.25 inches overall length, the stubby profile provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a go-to choice for machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople working in confined spaces or on CNC and manual drill press setups.
This drill bit is suited for drilling cast iron, nickel alloys, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and tool steel. The bright uncoated finish makes it a practical option when coating compatibility with the workpiece material is a concern, or when regrinding after wear is part of the shop workflow. The straight cylindrical shank seats reliably in standard drill chucks and collets. Typical applications include production drilling on machining centers, turret lathes, and benchtop drill presses where short, rigid tooling minimizes deflection and improves hole accuracy.
Designed for use in cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel workpieces. Fits any drill chuck or collet accepting a 0.1935-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine powered down. Secure the shank with appropriate chuck or collet torque per the machine manufacturer guidelines. Solid carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel; avoid side loads, interrupted cuts without proper support, and dropping the bit on hard surfaces. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace or regrind at the first sign of chipping or dullness.
