The HERTEL 16704264 is a screw machine length drill bit ground from solid carbide and suited for precision drilling in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. At 0.1890 inches in diameter (No. 12 wire size) with a 135-degree split-point geometry, the bit centers without walking and starts clean without a center punch. The 2.25-inch overall length is shorter than a jobber bit, which reduces deflection in tight setups and short-spindle machines. The bright uncoated finish is typical for carbide drills used in applications where coatings are not required or where re-sharpening is expected.
This bit is intended for production and maintenance drilling in cast iron, nickel alloys, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and tool steel. Screw machine length bits are commonly run in CNC machining centers, turret lathes, screw machines, and drill presses where stub-length rigidity is required. The two-flute slow-spiral configuration promotes chip evacuation in tough, stringy, or work-hardening materials. It is installed and used by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working with hard metals.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production drill bit for use in any machine tool accepting a straight cylindrical shank drill in the No. 12 wire size (0.1890 inches) range.
Solid carbide drill bits require a rigid, low-runout spindle setup; excessive runout will chip the cutting edge. Power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully in the collet or chuck to the recommended engagement depth before operation. Coolant-through is not supported by this bit, so surface-applied cutting fluid or mist coolant should be used when drilling stainless steel, nickel alloys, or titanium.
