The HERTEL 16692188 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision hole drilling in steel and stainless steel. It features a 118-degree standard point angle with web thinning and a tapered web configuration that reduces thrust on entry and improves chip evacuation. The bit carries a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, which increases surface hardness and extends tool life in ferrous materials. At 9/32 inch (0.2812 inch) diameter and 3.5 inches overall length, it fits standard drill chucks used by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators working in production or job-shop environments.
This drill bit is suited for drilling mild steel, tool steel, and stainless steel in both manual and CNC drill press applications. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks without modification. The 2-1/8 inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance for through-hole drilling in typical workpiece thicknesses. With a right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute geometry, it follows conventional feed-and-speed practices for carbide tooling in steel. It is sold individually and is part of the HERTEL Series 450 general-purpose carbide drill line.

Compatible with any drill press, machining center, or hand drill equipped with a chuck that accepts a 9/32 inch straight shank.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with carbide drill bit handling. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without appropriate feed adjustment, and impact forces that can chip the cutting edge. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and confirm chuck runout is within acceptable limits for the diameter being drilled. Coolant through is not supported on this bit; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling stainless steel or hard alloys to manage heat buildup.
