The HERTEL 16692170 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built from solid carbide grade C2 and coated with titanium nitride (TiN), this bit delivers extended tool life and reduced heat buildup during cutting. It measures 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 1-15/16 inches and a flute length of 15/16 inch. The 135-degree split point promotes self-centering and reduces walking on entry, eliminating the need for a center punch in most applications. Machinists, tool and die technicians, and precision fabricators typically reach for this bit when working in demanding materials.
This bit is suited for drilling cast iron, nickel alloys, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and tool steel. Its screw machine length profile keeps the cutting tool compact and rigid, making it appropriate for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turret lathes where stub-length rigidity reduces deflection. The slow spiral flute geometry is optimized for harder workpiece materials that require controlled chip evacuation rather than aggressive feed rates. No coolant-through capability is present, so external coolant or cutting fluid application is standard practice with this bit.
Designed as an OEM-style screw machine length drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks on CNC machining centers, manual drill presses, and turret lathes requiring a 9/64 inch diameter carbide bit.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by machinists or qualified fabricators familiar with carbide tooling and machine operation. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck or collet before running the spindle. Carbide tooling is brittle and susceptible to chipping if subjected to side loads, interrupted cuts without proper setup, or excessive feed rates. Apply external cutting fluid generously when drilling stainless steel, titanium alloy, or tool steel to manage heat and extend tool life.
