The HERTEL 16692006 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for precision drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built from solid carbide at Material Grade C2, the bit is coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN) to extend cutting life and reduce friction at the cutting edge. It features a 118-degree standard point angle, a two-flute regular spiral configuration with a web-thinned, tapered web for improved chip evacuation and reduced entry thrust. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 27/64 inch in diameter and seats securely in standard drill chucks. The overall length is 4.5 inches with a flute length of 2.875 inches. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users for this type of cutting tool.
This bit is suited for drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, composites, and other hard materials where carbide tooling outperforms high-speed steel. The Series 450 designation places it within HERTEL's jobber-length carbide line. Right-hand cutting direction makes it compatible with conventional CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld power tools with standard clockwise spindle rotation. The 27/64-inch diameter falls within the 0.4000 to 0.5000 decimal inch size range, making it appropriate for hole applications requiring 0.4219 inch nominal diameter. Maximum drilling depth is 4.5 inches.

Installation of drill bits should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the straight-cylindrical shank fully into the drill chuck or collet and tighten to the machine manufacturer's specified holding torque using appropriate chuck keys or collet wrenches. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating for damage before each use; a chipped carbide edge should be removed from service immediately.
