The HERTEL 16691933 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding materials. Built from solid carbide with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction in tough workpiece materials. The bit measures 1-13/16 inches overall length with a 13/16-inch flute length and a 7/64-inch (0.1094 inch) diameter. The 135-degree split point and web-thinned geometry reduce thrust force and improve centering without a pilot hole. With a maximum drilling depth of 1.77 inches, this bit suits precision hole-making in short-reach applications where rigidity and accuracy are critical.
This drill bit is engineered for use in cast iron, nickel alloys, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and tool steel — materials that demand carbide construction and a geometry that resists work hardening and galling. The screw machine length (stub length) profile provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well-suited for CNC machining centers, turret lathes, drill presses, and manual screw machines where short reach and minimal deflection matter. Install into a properly sized collet or drill chuck and verify runout before commencing drilling. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant compatible with the workpiece material even though this bit does not feature through-coolant capability. Follow the machine manufacturer and shop safety guidelines for RPM and feed rate selection when working with carbide tooling in hard or exotic alloys.
