The HERTEL 1002859 is an MVVN-style indexable turning toolholder designed for negative rake machining operations on the lathe. It accepts VN..332 series inserts and features a neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for straight turning and facing passes where insert geometry does the cutting work. The shank measures 0.75 inches wide by 0.75 inches tall with an overall length of 4.5 inches. Machinists and toolroom professionals use this holder in CNC and manual turning centers where consistent insert seating and repeatable tool life are required.
This toolholder is applied in general-purpose external turning operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The neutral hand design works equally well on lathes configured for right-hand or left-hand feed direction. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing passes on bar stock, shafts, and cylindrical workpieces. It is part of the HERTEL Multi-Option series, which standardizes insert platforms across a range of holder styles to reduce insert inventory.
Designed to accept VN..332 series indexable inserts. Fits standard 0.75 inch square shank tool blocks and quick-change toolpost systems on CNC and manual turning centers.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the shank fully in the toolpost block and confirm insert seating before taking a cut. Torque the insert clamp screw according to the insert manufacturer specification and inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before each insert change. Verify tool centerline height relative to workpiece centerline after any holder change.
