The HERTEL 1001820 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the HC305T material grade and an Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) CVD coating, which delivers thermal resistance and wear protection during medium to finishing cuts. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral rake geometry, a 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches with a corner radius of 0.0313 inches. A screw-holding method and a T-style chip breaker are built into the design. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install this insert.
This insert is suited for turning applications on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and similar workpiece materials corresponding to ISO material group K. Typical use cases include finishing and semi-finishing passes where consistent surface finish and tight dimensional tolerances are required. The T-style chip breaker promotes controlled chip evacuation at moderate feed rates and depths of cut. The CVD-applied Al2O3 coating extends tool life on abrasive workpiece materials. This insert is sold individually but requires a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders that accept an 80-degree diamond insert with an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches and a 0.1732-inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder tolerance and clamping specifications before installation.
This insert is installed by a machinist or CNC operator using the appropriate CCMT screw-clamp toolholder and a torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw. Always index or replace the insert with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamp for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the toolholder or insert manufacturer's recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the grade and coating specified.
